Airtable is a very popular spreadsheet/database tool (think Google Sheets on steroids). It is very popular among startups to create very powerful tables with some automation. Below are some of the UI/UX decisions that Airtable made when it came to their product page that we use as inspiration, a page that a lot of teams often neglect! Hopefully you find some inspiration.
How Do You Get to the Airtable Settings Page?
How you get there is just as important as the page itself. Airtable is a bit more complex because you not only manage your own account settings but you also need a way to manage the settings of the workspace(s) you are in. If you have a product that involves users being a part of workspaces with different billing settings then this is a great product to learn from.
You can get to the settings page of Airtable by clicking your avatar at the top right and selecting "account" which will take you to your personal settings page.
Alternatively you can click on the workspace dropdown itself and then click "Workspace settings" which will bring you to the specific workspace settings.
Both personal and workspace settings are in the same settings area and you can navigate between them on the left hand side.
Settings Page Navigation and Account Settings
Airtable divided the settings page into 2 sections on the left: Account and Workspaces. This is a good amount of separation that still lets us switch between the 2 very easily. Especially for users who may want to customize their profile using an image editor.
The account settings are very straightforward, allowing you to edit your image/name/email and other details but they also make "Credits" one of the primary focuses by making it second on the list of things you can edit as well as by highlighting the amount of credits you have in bright green, making it one of the most visible parts of the page.
The fact that they push this credit system very heavily on the settings page (and in other parts of their app) likely contributed to their substantial growth. By constantly reminding the user that they have credits, there is more opportunity for them to try to earn more or use them.
Referrals and Credits
Their referral system has its own section within the settings menu, showing you how important it is to them. They make it super easy for users to invite people by sharing both a link or allowing them to enter an email. Another cool thing they do is show the credits you've received on the right hand side to incentivize you to continue referring!
You may notice that I've invited quite a few people already to Airtable. The funny thing is I actually never intended to get a credit from these invites, I was simply inviting someone to collaborate on an Airtable base with me and they happened to be a first time user. However, now that I see I've earned a few credits already I'm more incentivized to continue using Airtable.
Recent Account Activity
This page is a great primary page to add to your settings page because it gives the user a feeling of extra security. Additionally, it actually isn't too hard to implement something like this into an app. (I've gone ahead and edited out the IP addresses).
Workspace Settings
The actual settings for a workspace are very bare bones, you really only get to edit the name at the top, view the the collaborators, view the storage usage of each base and edit billing.
However, it is worth noting how large the call to action is (as well as how they list the benefits of upgrading without you needing to leave the page) to upgrade your workspace to a paid plan and how it is the first thing on that list to edit. I can only imagine how different their conversion rate would be without a call to action like this that outlines the benefits without leaving the settings page.
Conclusion
There is a lot of great stuff to learn from how Airtable lays out their settings page, especially if you are an app that requires multiple settings pages for workspaces. They keep things simple and and embed the right call to actions to improve their paid plan conversions without disrupting the flow, something that a lot of other sites can learn from.
